Mr. Maithripala Sirisena
Sri Lanka is known for its valuable gemstones since ancient times and as many as 55 of the 153 varieties of precious stones are available on our rich soil. Today the gem and jewellery industry is an important segment of the Sri Lankan economy and it has a vast potential for further expansion.
I am happy to note that the vision of the NGJA is to give place of priority to our most popular gemstone, Sapphire, to promote Sri Lanka as the Sapphire capital of the world and the premier producer of high quality precious gemstones and exquisitely crafted jewellery.I am glad that the Sri Lankan jewelers too have modified and upgraded their products to suit the international requirement. I am confident that the NGJA, being the monitoring institute vested with the responsibility to regulate, develop and promote the gem and jewellery industry, will continue to play its important role successfully.
Over the years, the valuable role played by the National Gem and Jewellery Authority in the promotion of this important industry and making a valuable contribution to the national economy is highly commendable. I wish the future endeavours of the National Gem and Jewellery Authority every success.
